Clinician Safety in Outpatient and Healthcare Settings

This program will describe behavioral indicators of potential violence individuals in healthcare settings and types of mental illness that may result in violent behavior in clinical practice.   Psychiatric diagnoses, client assessment, risk factors, types of perpetrators, “approach behaviors” and “triggers” which may precipitate violence against caregivers, will be discussed. Transference and counter transference issues will be explored as they may affect safe practices with the potentially violent client. Verbal diffusion and personal safety actions will be discussed. Actual video tape case histories will be used as illustrative case examples.
